While President Obama has disappointed
me in many ways as a commander-in-chief, I was quite proud that he
finally decided to stop pandering to the religious bigots and come
out in support of of gay marriage. Earlier this afternoon, he spoke
with Robin Roberts on ABC to announce his support of the LGBT
community once and for all.
I understand that politicians have to
pander, honestly I do. It's what makes what they say go in one ear
and the other, most of the time. You do what you have to do to get
elected. Even if you really have a heart and want to do right by the
people, you have to get into office. And to do that, you have to play
the game.
Obama has been under intense pressure
from Dems to stop hemming and hawing on the issue. Since the rednecks
in North Carolina passed Amendment 1 yesterday, which bans same-sex
marriage and civil unions, it was time to take a stand once and for
all.
You can call it an “evolution” if
you like, Mr. President. But there are those of us who know you've
believed this for a very long time.
Now, if he can just be honest an
proclaim his atheism, I'd really be impressed.
